We've Got The Answers
to your questions.

(Well, not all of them. We can’t figure out #4 on that ECON final either.)

What is Alight?

It’s an apartment community designed especially with Penn State students in mind, offering spacious apartments, great amenities and dedication to quality — all in a convenient location and at competitive rates.

Is Alight part of Penn State University?

Alight is a privately owned and professionally managed community. Click here for more information about the management and ownership.

Can I live with friends, or can you match me with roommates?

You can select your roommate(s), or you can apply on your own and we can match you with other students. Applicants answer a short list of lifestyle questions to help in the matching process.

What are per-person contracts?

Instead of requiring all roommates to sign a joint lease, each person at Alight has their own individual contract, with one person per bedroom. This means you are only responsible for paying for yourself — not your roommates. Even if a roommate moves out or other bedrooms in your apartment are empty, you only pay the rate for your bedroom. Click here to see a sample Housing Agreement.

What is included in the rate?

Each resident at Alight pays a flat rate that includes:

  • Furniture
  • High speed Internet throughout the community
  • Water/sewer, trash removal
  • Washer and dryer in each apartment
  • Community features — pool, fitness center, etc.
What size are the apartments?

The spacious accommodations at Alight range from two bedroom to four bedroom apartments.

Are the apartments furnished?

Yes. Each apartment includes a complete set of furniture, including leather-style living room set, full-size beds, desks and chairs, dressers, coffee table and dining furniture. To see a sample of the furniture and other finishes, please visit our model apartments.

When do the contracts start and end?

The standard term is August 18, 2023 to July 26, 2024, with payments made in 12 equal installments. Limited alternate dates may be available; please inquire with our staff. Click here to see a sample Housing Agreement.

Is a co-signer or financial guaranty required?

Each resident must pay an administrative fee within 7 days after signing the Housing Agreement. This fee is reduced significantly if the resident provides a qualifying guarantor (often a parent) for their financial obligations under Housing Agreement.

Can I pay by credit card?

Yes. Residents can pay online 24 hours per day, by credit card or ACH electronic checking. Alight also offers automatic payment by either credit card or checking account — just fill out one page, one time and payments will be made automatically. Convenience fees apply for credit card and debit card payments.

Will my financial aid cover charges at Alight?

Your living costs at Alight can be covered by financial aid, just like on-campus housing. Any available financial aid funds, after university charges are satisfied, are released to the student for non-institutional expenses, such as off-campus housing. These funds can be used to pay charges at Alight. Normal payment deadlines will continue to apply.

Is Alight open to non-students?

Nearly all the residents at Alight are students at Penn State University. The per person contracts are also designed with students in mind; nonetheless, Alight is an Equal Opportunity housing provider and welcomes applications from non-students. Family members are welcome as well, subject to occupancy limits. Because of the need to match student roommates, non-students must apply together with enough roommates to fill the desired apartment.

What kind of safety and security are provided?

Alight provides courtesy patrols during evening hours. Management staff are also on-site 24×7 and can be reached by a 24-hour phone number.

What are the policies on pets, smoking and guests?

The community is smoke-free in all indoor and adjacent areas. Guests are welcome at all times, subject to the consent of roommates and security considerations. Overnight guests are welcome, with limits on the number of days and guests. Alight is pet-friendly in select buildings, with required registration and fee, and subject to limits on animals and breed.

Can I park my vehicle at Alight?

Alight offers free surface parking for all residents. Limited guest parking is also available at no charge Sunday through Wednesday nights and $2 per night on Thursday through Saturday nights.

What other transportation options will I have?

All residents receive a CATA bus pass, valid on six bus routes that pick up right next to Alight, or from Atherton & Blue Course a quarter-mile away, and run directly to the Penn State campus and downtown State College. Buses run seven days a week, including late night, with service typically every 5 to 15 minutes. It’s as little as a six-minute ride to campus.

Can I see a model apartment?

Yes. Please request an appointment for a personal tour, or just stop by to see us and we’ll be happy to show you the community.
